Passenger space is an important aspect of any vehicle, especially when it comes to long distance champions like an SUV. You’ll be glad know the Atlas shines in this department.
Up front, both driver and passenger can relax with 41.3 inches of headroom and 41.7 inches of legroom. This is a step up from the Pilot, which provides just 40.1 inches of front headroom and 40.9 inches of front legroom. In the middle row, the Atlas outshines the Pilot yet again, bringing 40.4 inches of headroom compared to the Pilot’s 40.2 inches of middle-row headroom.
SUVs aren’t only great for bringing along friends and family. They’re also experts at carrying cargo. For example, the VW Atlas offers 55.5 cubic feet of cargo volume behind the second row, whereas the Pilot offers just 46.8 cubic feet of cargo volume behind the second row.

In today’s digital age, technology is around every corner. Now, thanks to the innovations of Volkswagen, it is also inside of your automobile.
At the center of it all lies a standard 6.5-inch color touchscreen display with AM/FM radio functionality. Sticking with the standard Pilot trim only grants a 5-inch Color LCD screen. Plus, the Atlas makes it easy to stay connected, implementing standard Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ integration, something not standard on the Pilot.
Smartphone integration is also an effortless way to listen to your favorite playlists. Which, by the way, will sound pretty epic through the Atlas’s available Fender® Premium Audio System with 12 speakers.
Honda does offer its own premium sound system; however, it only comes with 10 speakers.

Lastly, but certainly not least, let’s go over the convenience features and amenities found inside of these two SUVs.
We’ll start with the exterior, where the Atlas comes equipped with standard black roof rails. Roof rails are great for summer road trips as they allow you to bring even more stuff along. If you want roof rails on top of your Honda Pilot, you’ll have to upgrade to a higher trim level.
Moreover, an Easy Open tailgate is also an option for the Atlas. When your key is within a certain range, simply wave your foot under the rear bumper to open the trunk. The Pilot features an optional power tailgate as well.
Now that you’re familiar with the features of the VW Atlas and the Honda Pilot, it’s time to choose your favorite! If, like us, you’re drawn to the space, technology, and amenities provided by the Volkswagen Atlas, we recommend coming to take a closer look!
